HHS students attending CTTC; dome updated
Hennessey school superintendent Dr. Mike Woods said they have 31 juniors and seniors in career tech classes at Chisholm Trail Technology Center in Omega.
He said some students drive themselves while others ride buses.
He commended staff for rearranging schedules so students could attend the tech classes, and said during their Jan. 15 meeting that they now have a need for a 14 passenger, non-yellow, bus.
Hirings
The board agreed to hire Perla Leyva as a full-time custodian/bus driver so she could drive vo-tech students. Woods said he had been making the four trips a day with students.
Leyva had been a part-time custodian, but will now drive vo-tech students.
Woods also recommended that Kendal (Bregenzer) Choate, wife of school board president Cristopher Choate, be hired as an hourly long-term substitute teacher for the rest of the school year for high/middle school remediation classes.
Before the vote to hire her, vice president Patrick Griffin asked for the authority on how the board could do that since Kendal Choate is married to a board member. Woods said their auditor told him that as long as she is an hourly employee it’s OK.
Teachers of the Month
Named as the elementary teacher of the month is Teresa Hugaboom and Craig Ullery for the mid-high school. Teachers select the winners.
Chromebooks Donated
Woods read a thank you note from the Okeene Public Schools for the used Chromebooks that Hennessey donated to their school.
Food Service Presentation
Prior to the board meeting, a buffet meal was served by OPAA, a food service company that wants the school to use their services.
Bill Seitter, a former Watonga school superintendent, spoke to the group about what the company offers.
OPAA provides food service to 42 schools in Oklahoma, including Kingfisher and Watonga.
And a handful of other companies have made presentations to the board this school year.
All members of the board were present at last week’s meeting: Joe Garrison (clerk), Dr. James Matousek, Luke Lough, Choate and Griffin.
