Hennessey United will honor volunteers April 11
Hennessey United’s annual Red Carpet Night is set for Thursday, April 11. The event is to honor members and volunteers of all local clubs, along with school organizations and community volunteers.
The United board set the date at their Jan. 17 meeting.
Red Carpet Night will be held at the Ortman Auditorium at the Hennessey Public Library at 7 p.m. A reception will follow the awards program.
All Hennessey community and school organizations are invited to recognize an outstanding person. Let Cathy Howard (405-853-6212) know the name of your honoree so it may be listed on the program.
Howard, board secretary, said the group needs to come up with names of recipients for the their awardees at the next meeting.
Members present at the January meeting were Tammy Henderson (treasurer), Teresa Oliver, Scott Hajek, Stacy Cline, Kaden Mitchell, Barb Walter and Howard.
Leadership Class
Walter, director of the group’s high school senior Leadership Class, reported on the 2018 class that was completed in December.
Walter said the winning community service team is to appear at the Feb. 11 town board meeting for approval of its $4,000 project at the Pat Hennessey Park.
Walter and other board members, Howard and Teresa Oliver, will meet soon, she said, to come up with plans for the 2019 Leadership Class, then meet with the principal to iron out details.
Boys’ State
There is not a group in Hennessey to support Boys’ State so United voted to support HHS junior and United board member Kaden Mitchell to represent Hennessey. Howard said she would contact a group from Kingfisher about the selection.
He will also serve as a Senate Page Feb. 11-14 for Hennessey’s newly-elected State Sen. Chuck Hall, R-Perry.
Make A Difference Day
Cline said she doesn’t need funds from United with the mid-high school students part in the town-wide clean-up because last year the town was so glad for the help that they provided gloves, etc.
The event is scheduled April 29 and residents who have projects may contact Cline at the school (405-853-4303 or 853-4305) or town hall (405-853-2416).
February Challenge
Howard challenged the group to come up with a list of what they want to accomplish in 2019. Walter suggested they have another community-wide meeting about the needs of the community.
The board’s next meeting is at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21.
Also at last month’s meeting was local preservationist Richard Simunek.
Board members absent from the January meeting were Dagan Hardin, Wes Hardin and Jack Quirk.
