Kingfisher’s eighth grade football team got dramatic in its first game of the 2020 season.

Trailing Chisholm by a score for much of the second half, the Jackets’ Daniel Guerrero found Payton Burnham for a 78-yard touchdown play late in the fourth quarter.

Lucas Conrady made the clutch extra-point as Kingfisher eventually prevailed 7-6.

“Payton had a great run to finish that play and he also played solid at quarterback,” said Doug Jech, who coaches the team along with Fay Barnett.

Jech said Bert Haag had a solid game on both sides of the ball. Luke Strickland, he said, “stepped up on defense.”

Mason Alig and Ryan Sanders were also commended for the play in the trenches.

Kingfisher also got a big pass reception from Ryker Long in the contest.

Chisholm Tops 7th Grade Jackets

The seventh grade team dropped their initial contest of the season by a 16-0 score.

Jett Birdwell and Andrew Hine were commended by coaches for their performances.

Freshman/JV Game Called Off

The Kingfisher JV and freshman game was canceled due to weather as there were several lightning strikes in the area.
