Alice Virginia Hinkle, 98, passed away Thursday, Jan. 16, 2025, in Kingfisher.

Funeral services were Friday, Jan. 24, at Watonga Church of the Nazarene with Jeff Liles and Jared Burch officiating.

Burial followed at Watonga I.O.O.F. Cemetery under the direction of Wilkinson Mortuary in Watonga.

Pallbearers were Steven May, Kevin Edsall, Matthew Plummer, Mason Plummer, Lane Bowers and Christopher Rice.

Alice was born Nov. 15, 1926, at the family home southeast of Watonga to Walter Franklin and Edith Merium (Darwin) Hinkle.

Alice began school at Cordell, a one-room country school. She graduated from Watonga High School in 1944 as valedictorian of her class.

She then began work for attorney and abstractor Theodore Graalman and continued working when the business was purchased by H.G. Tolbert.

Later she worked for Ernie Hoberecht at Blaine County Abstract until retirement in 1991.

She was a lifetime member of Watonga Church of the Nazarene.

She was a member of the Watonga Senior Citizens and the Watonga Hospital Auxiliary where she served as president for four years.

She belonged to the Women’s Christian Temperance Union and was named “Pioneer Woman of the Year” at their state convention in 2001.

Alice is survived by nieces Mary B. May, Virginia (Butch) Edsall and Sherrie (Roy) Plummer, all of Watonga; Shanda (Troy) Bowers of Jones; Teriesa (Mike) Tauber of Colwich, Kan.; and Denise (Ernie) Jacobs of Maize, Kan.

She is also survived by sister-in-law Phena Hinkle, step-niece Debbie Rice and step-nephews Robert and Phillip Harman; 16 great-nieces and great-nephews and 15 great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Ira Hinkle, brother Willis Hinkle and his wife Georgia.
