Charlotte Jean Maxon, 78, passed away in her home in Cashion on Friday, Aug. 12, 2022.

She was born May 17, 1944, in Oklahoma City to Donald Eugene and Lottie Mae (Mason) Maxon.

Charlotte’s parents purchased the family farm in Cashion when she was 2 years old. She grew up on the farm and spent most of her life living there.

Charlotte graduated from Cashion High School in 1962, then graduated four years later from Central State University.

She became an elementary school teacher and touched the lives of countless children throughout her career. She retired from Cashion Public Schools in 2010.

Charlotte’s other passion was farming. She took great joy in taking care of the cattle.

She was always helping her parents and then took over the farming operation when they retired in the early 1990’s.

Although she loved all animals, she had a special place in her heart for cats. Everyone that knew her knew about her love of cats. She never met a cat she didn’t want to take home.

Charlotte was a very active member of the Cashion Christian Church and served many years as church treasurer.

We take great comfort in knowing that she is walking with Jesus now and is completely healed. Charlotte spent 11 years caring for her elderly parents. Her love, devotion and self-sacrifice were an inspiration to all those around her. Caring for others was a theme that ran through her entire life.

She was truly an amazing daughter, sister, mother and grandmother.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Lottie Maxon, and her brother, Edward Lynn Maxon.

She is survived by her daughters, Stephanie Norton White and husband Keith of Cashion and Samantha Norton Layton of Piedmont; and grandchildren, Braden White and wife Justine, Brylee White, Adriana Layton, Mark Layton and Kaylyn Layton.

Charlotte is also survived by her brother Richard Maxon and wife Leaunna as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 19, at Cashion Christian Church with burial following at Cashion Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, 220 N. 1st St., Guthrie.

Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, with the family greeting guests between 5-7 p.m. at Smith-Gallo Funeral Home.
