Delores Evelyn Curran, formerly of Oklahoma City a longtime Hennessey resident, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2023.

She was born in Sumner on Oct. 8, 1929, as the third child of Walter and Iva Bowers.

Delores attended school in Sumner through eighth grade, then graduated from Perry High School in 1947.

She married Johnny Curran on Jan. 31, 1948. They had three children: John, Jim and Joy.

In early 1960, the Curran family made their way to Hennessey.

Delores was a member of the Perry branch of VFW. In Hennessey, the family joined the First United Methodist Church where she volunteered for Vacation Bible School, often serving as director of the program. She joined the Child Study Club, where she served as president for a year.

She was a member of the Hennessey Country Club’s Women’s Association and also served for many years as the judge on the Kingfisher County Election Board in the Hennessey precinct.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John, her parents and five of her six siblings: Forest Bowers, Maxine Tisdell, Dorothy Phillips, Barbara Reed and Ronald Bowers.

She is survived by a sister, Donna Richardson; son John Curran and wife Jan, son Jim Curran and wife Kim, daughter Joy Lasley and husband Randy; 13 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and a caregiver, Carmen McCalvin.

A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Hennessey at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28.

Interment will follow at the Hennessey Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home, Hennessey.
