    Emmitt Jay Branson, 90, died Feb. 26, 2025, from natural causes at his home in Crescent. He was born Dec. 20, 1934, in Cashion to Luther and Winifred Branson. Emmitt worked for Vieth Brothers as a farmhand and mechanic in high school before his military service in the U.S. Army.

    After this he worked for Massey Ferguson in parts and as a mechanic and later as a troubleshooter and in finance as bill collector who traveled through the plains states.

    He is known in the Crescent area as a farmer and rancher from the 1970s to present. He worked with his brother Luther and nephew Jay Roney raising wheat, rye and cattle.

    Emmitt was a devoted member of the Church of Christ who was faithful in attendance until his health no longer allowed.

    He was interested in and supported sound gospel preaching. He took an active part in teaching, song leading and prayer leading in the assemblies.

    He was the church treasurer as well as being a liberal giver to the church.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Wilma, his brothers Luther, David and Melvin, and a sister, Betty Roney.

    He is survived by a twin sister Emma Gaye Lieber of Hennessey, stepchildren Lavon Rigdon and Vonda Dupree and numerous nieces and nephews.

    Funeral services were March 4 at the Crescent Church of Christ.

    Burial followed in the Oakland-Knowles Cemetery.
