George Robert Cerny, 88, died Thursday, July 15, 2021, at his home in Kingfisher.

A graveside service is 10 a.m. Monday, July 26, at Banner Cemetery with Pastor Fred Jones officiating. Services are under the direction of Sanders Funeral Service.

George was born southeast of Kingfisher on Jan. 24, 1933, to Ernest Cerny and Fay Hartzell.

He married Laura June Cerny on Jan. 17, 1951, in Kingfisher.

The two celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this year. George attended King

George attended Kingfisher High School and finished his senior year while serving with the Oklahoma National Guard 45th Division.

He served in Korea as a motor sergeant from 1951-52.

He worked as an electrician and mechanic in Oklahoma City and started A&A Carpet Service in Wichita Falls, Texas, before moving home to raise his family on the farm.

George retired after spending 50 years on the farm.

He was a member of the Kingfisher Cattlemen’s Association, Kingfisher American Legion, Kingfisher Elks Lodge and Kingfisher Golf Association.

George was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Larry Cerny and Marvin Cerny and sister Evelyn Workman.

He is survived by his wife of the home; children LaRita Sipe and husband Dennis, Dennis Cerny and wife Kyle and Elizabeth Cox and husband Phillip, all of Kingfisher; sister Blanche Cluck and husband Jimmy of Kingfisher; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
