The funeral for James Leonard “Jim” Murphy, 81, was Friday, Nov. 15, at Dover High School gym officiated by Jimmy Berkenbile. Cremation followed with Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Jim was born in Enid on Sept. 28, 1943, to James L. “Tuck” and Wanda Mae Sturgeon Murphy and died Sunday, Nov. 10, 2024, at Integris Bass Baptist Health Center in Enid.

Jim married Penny Stewart in October 1989 in Hennessey.

He was water superintendent at Dover for many years, then worked for Dover Public Schools until ill health forced his retirement.

Jim was a missionary who provided a jail ministry to Kingfisher County Jail for several years and was very proud of the services he was able to provide.

Jim is survived by one son, Jeff Murphy of Muncie, Ind.; two stepsons, Alan Stewart and Adam Stewart; eight grandchildren, James R. Murphy, Raven Ridenour, Bennie Ridenour, Kristian R. Murphy, Mariyah Stewart, Izabella Sproles, Titan Stewart, Michael Murphy; one sister, Jana Beth Wright and husband Wes; one sister-inlaw, Cindy Murphy; eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, son James Scott Murphy, daughter Amber Stewart and brother Danny Murphy.

Memorial donations may be made in his name to the Community Action Team with the funeral home serving as custodian of the fund.
