Josephine “Jo” Gassen of Okarche passed peacefully on June 27, 2023, in Oklahoma City, at the ripe ol’ age of 93.

Jo was born on July 11, 1929, in Okarche to Theodore and Frances (Kline) Gassen.

She was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and a graduate of Holy Trinity High School. She resided in Okarche her entire life up until seven years ago when she moved to Village at Oakwood in Oklahoma City.

Jo enjoyed musical theater, trying new restaurants and playing cards and games around the table with family. Some of her favorite pastime activities included reading, working puzzles and embroidering.

Jo quickly became the No. 1 fan of the OKC Thunder basketball team. She carried this fandom into Oakwood, where she enjoyed watching the game and socializing with her new friends.

Jo was a great worker throughout her life, with many years at Okarche and Kingfisher hospitals. She also cleaned the Okarche bank for years.

Jo was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Frances (Kline) Gassen; her sisters Margaret and husband Claude, Theresa and husband Robert, Cecelia and husband Wayne, and Bernadette and husband Larry; brothers Bart and wife Eva, Henry and wife Betty, and Paul and wife Joan; and a number of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

She is survived by a very large family of nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews who love and adored her.

The family asks donations be made in Jo’s name to the Center of Family Love in Okarche.

Mass of Christian Burial was 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 1, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with burial following at Holy Trinity Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Sanders Funeral Service.
