Neva J. Mayes Varner, 83, of Tulsa, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2020, at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa after a long battle with health issues.

Neva was born Dec. 15, 1937, near Dover to Ed and Bertha Mayes.

She attended Dover High School and was a graduate of the class of 1956.

Neva worked as an executive secretary as her career for many years.

She worked for WKY radio in Oklahoma City; Safeway Corporation in Oklahoma City; First National Bank Trust Department in Amarillo, Texas, and Oklahoma City; Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce; and the Hoarder Company of Tulsa.

Neva also raised four children: Ron, Tracey, Steven and Shawn.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers and four sisters; her youngest son, Shawn Patrick; and her daughter, Tracey Nelson.

Neva is survived by her sons Ron Horn of Yukon and Steven Horn of Celina, Texas, and their spouses. She is survived by nine grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Neva is also survived by two of her 12 siblings: Vera Bean of Ohio and Don Mayes of Okarche.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28, at Dover Christian Church.

The family requests donations to the Banner Cemetery Association in lieu of flowers.
