3 from county earn Region 1’s top honor
Three athletes from Kingfisher County received one of the highest honors last week from the Oklahoma Coaches Association.
Okarche’s Easton Roby and Jett Mueggenborg were named the OCA’s Region 1 Co-Male Athletes of the Year in a vote of its coaches.
Kingfisher’s Reese Roof was voted the Region 1 Female Athlete of the Year.
Region 1 is a 17-county area in northwest Oklahoma that includes every school in Kingfisher, Logan, Canadian, Blaine, Custer, Dewey, Garfield, Grant, Alfalfa, Major, Ellis, Woodward, Woods, Harper, Beaver, Texas and Cimarron counties.
All three athletes honored are seniors.
Roby and Mueggenborg have already helped Okarche win two state championships this school year: the Class A fall baseball title and Class A basketball crown.
The Warriors are currently the No. 1-ranked Class A-I team in spring baseball.
They have been a part of four state championships overall as Okarche recently completed a three-peat basketball championship run.
Both Mueggenborg and Roby earned multiple basketball honors, including OCA All-State.
Mueggenborg has signed to play basketball at the University of Central Oklahoma.
Roby has signed to play baseball at Cowley County Community College.
Roof is a three-sport standout for KHS.
She earned District 4A-3 honorable mention in softball where she was a starter at second base for the Lady Jackets.
She was the Lady Jackets’ leading scorer in basketball as she racked up 12.7 points a contest and helped guide the team to its second straight Class 4A state basketball tournament.
Roof is also a multi-event state qualifier in track and field.
