3 county schools have solid showings at C-D track meet
Tonkawa swept the team titles Tuesday at the Covington-Douglas Jesse James Invitational, but multiple county teams still had strong showings in the track and field meet.
Two of them were runners- up in the points standings.
Hennessey scored 108 to finish behind Tonkawa’s 154 for the boys’ team title.
The Cashion girls notched 86 points to finish behind Tonkawa’s 111 for the girls’ championship.
And the Dover girls, with their 74 points, placed third.
Dover got a big boost from the Harviston twins and Kylee Bell for their point total.
Bell won the pole vault by tying a career-best 9 feet, 6 inches.
She was also second in the long jump while Katelyn Harviston was fourth.
Katelyn Harviston also won the 200 meter dash. Her time of 27.60 seconds was less than one second faster than her twin sister Karlee Harviston, who was the runner-up.
Not to be outdone, Karlee Harviston won the 400 meter dash, finishing less than a half-second faster than Cashion’s Sierra Mc-Cracken, who was second.
The Harvistons, Bell and Valeria Padilla combined to take second in the 800 relay and fourth in the 400 relay.
Cashion won both of those team events.
Abby Hobgood, Chevy Eubanks, Madison Westerhoff and Reese Williams teamed together to win gold in both relays.
Cashion also scored well in the mile relay as Mc-Cracken joined Hobgood, Westerhoff and Williams to take silver.
McCracken claimed gold in the 800 meter run as well.
The Hennessey girls placed 10th with 22 points.
They were led by Jocelyn Matousek, who was the runner-up in both the mile and two-mile runs.
The Hennessey boys put up a strong showing in relays to gain a bulk of their points.
They took first in the 400, 800 and mile relays and were third in the twomile team effort.
Braedyn Richardson, Camdyn Richardson, Weston Smith and Kevin Trillo won the 400 relay.
The two-mile relay team was Braedyn Richardson, Luis Montoya, Smith and Trillo.
Smith, Trillo, Gunnar Holder and Camdyn Richardson took gold in the 800 while the mile relay team was Holder, both Richardsons and Trillo.
Holder also claimed individual gold in the 300 hurdles while Brenden Mainard won the discus for the Eagles.
Camdyn Richardson was the long jump runner-up.
Cashion’s boys were eighth with 24 points.
Gage Bedick was second in the 3,200, the 800 and the mile for the Wildcats.
