Browning earns OW at Hub City
KHS girls have 2 champs, take 3rd; boys also crown 2, finish 4th
Kingfisher had two male champions, two more on the female side and a number of other placers at last weekend’s Hub City Classic Wrestling Tournament held annually in Clinton.
Gant Browning not only won the 132-pound class, but was named Outstanding Wrestler for the tournament.
The senior led the Jackets to a fourth-place finish with their 174 points.
Mustang won the team title with 258 points, followed by Clinton with 201 and Cache with 193.
Browning was one of two Yellowjackets to win their weight class among the six who reached the finals.
He won his first three bracket matches via falls, then earned an 11-1 major decision over Weatherford’s Creek Williams in the championship match.
Also bringing home gold was Brayden Kochenower at 138 pounds.
Kochenower pinned his foes in the quarterfinals and semifinals, then beat Mustang’s Jaren Peterson 6-1 in the championship.
The Jackets also had Jaxon Sheppard take runner-up at 126 pounds, Jace Johnson at 150, Mason Alig at 175 pounds and Jose Santoyo at 190.
Aiden Maggard was fourth at 113 pounds to round out Kingfisher’s placers.
••• The Lady Jackets saw Taygen Otey and Zoey Padilla bring home gold medals.
They were part of nine KHS placers for the girls’ side As a team, Kingfisher notched 99 points, good for third overall behind Cache (190) and Altus (113).
Otey won all three of her matches at 120 pounds, two of them by fall and then a 3-1 decision over Karlee Chapman of Cache.
Padilla pinned two foes and also got a forfeit victory to claim first at 135.
Rylee Hamil was knocked off by Cordell’s Baylor Moore in their 125-pound finale.
Delissa Evans also took silver as she won her quarterfi nal and semifinal via falls then lost to Altus’ Aubrey Brown in the finals.
Other placers for Kingfi sher were Shelby Willson (fourth at 110), Emma McLean (fourth at 130), Elizabeth Pickle (fourth at heavyweight), Mylene Jones (fifth at 110) and Alexi Otey (sixth at 100).
••• Cashion’s boys took 12th in the team standings with their 46 points.
Kaleb Duran (175 pounds) and Matt Stockton (heavyweight) led the way as they finished fourth in their respective weight classes.
They combined for 29 of Cashion’s points.
The Wildcats also had Oliver Downing place sixth at 120 pounds.
The Cashion girls placed 13th with 19 points.
All the points came from two wrestlers.
Roman Davis took third at 170 pounds while Alex Jerry was fifth at 125.
