Dover may very well have two of the best guards in its classification.

That was on full display all of last week.

Senior Casen Buck and sophomore Daxx Compton led the Longhorns to four victories during the week, the last three of which secured a second straight championship at the Mustang Stampede tournament at Pioneer-Pleasant Vale High School.

Buck was named the tournament MVP after scoring 16 points and doling out 7 assists in the Longhorns’ 56-38 victory over Drummond in Saturday’s title game.

After Drummond led 14-10 after a quarter, the Longhorns dominated the final three, outscoring the Bulldogs by at least seven points in each frame.

Buck scored 12 points in the second half as Dover continued to pull away.

Compton meanwhile had a game-high 23 points and 4 steals in the game.

He scored at least four points in each quarter, including six in the second when Dover claimed the lead for good with a 17-9 run.

Compton then chipped in 11 more points in the second half.

He joined Buck on the all-tournament team as did Brennan Fletcher and Kyler Williams.

Fletcher had 4 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals against the Bulldogs.

Williams poured in 5 points and had 3 boards.

Those two both scored 10 points during Dover’s 62-36 victory against Coyle in Friday’s semifinal game.

Compton also scored 10 in limited minutes as Dover ballooned a 10-point lead after a quarter into a 44-17 lead at halftime. Compton also delivered 4 steals.

The Longhorns were led by Buck’s 18 points.

The tournament’s top seed, Dover opened Thursday with an 81-14 win against Blackwell JV.

Buck scored 21 and had 4 steals.

Compton added 19 points to go with 4 rebounds.

Fourteen different players scored for Dover.

For the week, which included a win against Waukomis last Tuesday, Buck averaged 20.5 points a game and just under 4 assists a game.

Compton meanwhile scored right at 20 points a game to go with 4 rebounds and 3 assists.

Dover ended the week with a 9-0 overall record as the Longhorns maintained their perch atop Class B-II.
