Offense got Lomega the lead.

Defense kept it. The Raiders denied Kremlin-Hillsdale in its final possession Tuesday to cling to a 74-73 victory on the road.

Despite missing four free throw attempts to extend their lead in the final two minutes, the Raiders turned away the Broncs, who had the ball for the final 30 seconds of the game.

Scoring struggles plagued neither team for much of the game.

The first half was a shootout between the Broncs’ Landon Schultz and Lomega’s Chase Burton.

Schultz had 12 in the first half and played a big part in his team getting out to a 22-15 lead in the first quarter.

But Burton was better. The sophomore caught fire and nailed seven firsthalf 3-pointers to give him 21 points.

“He’s been playing really well lately,” coach Justin Edsall said. “The kid lives in the gym and it’s showing.”

Burton made four treys in the second quarter while Ben Marsh, another sophomore, added two more.

Lomega scorched the nets for 29 points in the quarter to take a 44-40 halftime lead.

Schultz scored just two more points the rest of the game, but Andrew Wright and David Grandberg picked up where he left off in the second half.

Wright hit three treys and scored 11 points in the third quarter while Grandberg added six more points. The Broncs reclaimed the lead by outscoring the Raiders 21-14.

And while Burton cooled off as well, Marsh and Lance Yost delivered for Lomega in the fourth quarter.

The duo combined for 15 of Lomega’s 16 points as they took back the lead…and for good.

Marsh finished his night with 18 points while Yost scored 17.

Burton tallied a gamehigh 27 points.

For Kremlin-Hillsdale, Wright led his team with 17 while Schultz scored 16 and Grandberg 14.

Lomega was 6-3 after the win.

Lady Raiders have no problem starting sweep

Darcy Roberts continued to torch the nets as Lomega remained undefeated.

The Lady Raiders went on the road Tuesday and handed Kremlin-Hillsdale a 78-44 defeat.

Class B’s top-ranked team was 9-0 after the win.

Roberts, coming off an MVP performance at the Canton Invitational, scored a game-high 22 points.

The senior scored nine first-quarter points as Lomega raced to a 28-8 advantage.

It continued to grow. Sydni Walker and Abby Swart scored 15 points apiece for Lomega.

Walker scored 11 of her points in the first half while Swart knocked down a trio of 3-pointers.

Kremlin-Hillsdale was led by Rowyn Seek’s 12 points.
