Campbell guides West to All-State golf victory

He didn’t get a senior season, but Colby Campbell got one last high school victory.
Campbell on Monday helped the West defeat the East 8.5.-6.5 in the All-State Golf Tournament at Lincoln Park Golf Course in Oklahoma City.
The recent Kingfisher High School graduate teamed with Elk City’s Tate Trotter to earn 4 of their team’s points in the Ryder Cup-style format.
The West had four two-person teams that took on two-person teams from the East.
There were six holes of best ball, six of modified alternate shot and six holes of scramble.
A point was up for grabs for each format and then the final score.
Campbell and Trotter didn’t drop a single point to Oologah’s Soulai Vang and Poteau’s Luke Wheat.
Campbell and Trotter shot a 22 on best ball, one stroke better than their opponents.
They fired a 20 on alternate shot, which tied for the best score by any team in that format. It was four strokes better than Vang and Wheat.
Finally their 23 in scramble was again one stroke better.
Overall, Campbell and Trotter shot a 65 to beat their East counterparts by six strokes.
The duo accounted for nearly half of the West’s point total.
Joey Lewis of Mount St. Mary and Ben Thionnet of Heritage Hall picked up 3 points while Edmond Memorial’s Asher Clift and Guthrie’s Luke Morgan managed 1.5 points.
The event was hosted by the Oklahoma Golf Coaches Association after the Oklahoma Coaches Association was forced to cancel the annual All-State games in the Tulsa area.
The win capped Campbell’s high school career, but he’s not finished with competitive golfing.
Earlier this summer, Campbell signed to play for Fort Scott Community College in Fort Scott, Kan.
