Cashion girls 4th, boys 5th

Cashion’sboysrebounded from an opening-day loss to take the consolation championship at their own Cashion County Line Tournament.

After suffering a 59-50 setback to Fairview, the Wildcats beat Perry 44-28 on Friday and then Varnum 71-50 for the consolation title.

Cashion led Varnum by just four points at the half, but outscored the Whippets 43-26 in the second.

The visitors had no answer for Jackson Vandruff, who scored 22 points and had 16 rebounds.

Chance Acord just missed a double-double with eight points and 13 boards.

Cashion had nearly as many offensive rebounds (25) as Varnum had total (26).

Nathan Nabavi added 11 in the win.

Vandruff scored 16 in Friday’s victory.

This time, Cashion made its move in the first half with a 20-9 run in the second quarter.

Vandruff also led the team with seven rebounds.

Nabavi scored nine points.

Cashion was 9-6 after the the tournament and is currently ranked 17th in Class A.

Varnum edges Cashion girls in consolation final

The Lady Wildcats pulled the opposite of the boys.

They won their opener, but dropped the next two to finish fourth.

Cashion opened with a 42-31 victory over Perry.

After seeing much of an early eight-point lead disappear, Cashion outscored the Lady Maroons 18-9 in the fourth.

Lauren Jenkins scored 13 and Megan Shafer 12.

Top-seeded Dale, which eventually won the girls’ title, held off Cashion 50-34 in the semifinals.

Jenkins poured in 16 in defeat.

On Saturday, Varnum squeezed out a 46-43 win in the third-place game.

Cashion led 28-24 at half.

Shafer scored 16 and Jenkins 14 for the Lady Wildcats.

Cashion was 6-9 after the loss.
