Class B’s top-ranked teams win big in Calumet

Doverwhelmed.

That was Olive’s situation just minutes into its regional semifinal with Class B’s topranked team.

Dover made eight 3-pointers and scored 36 points in just one quarter to set the tone in an 8335 victory at Calumet.

It landed the Lady Longhorns in Saturday’s regional championship game against McCurtain in Okmulgee.

Rylee Buck was the biggest culprit in Dover’s hot start.

The junior buried five treys and scored 17 points before the quarter was done.

Katelyn Harviston added another three 3-pointers and 13 points.

By quarter’s end, Dover had a 30-point lead and continued to build on it, outscoring Olive in every quarter.

For the game, Dover made 15 3-pointers.

Buck nailed eight of them as part of her game-high 27 points.

Harviston made four and scored 20.

Dover also got 10 points from Karlee Harviston and Joi Caldwell.

Dover kept it close for a while, then went in survival mode.

The Longhorns had their seven-game win streak snapped Thursday with a 71-21 loss to No. 1-ranked Calumet on the Chieftains home floor.

The defeat sent Dover into the consolation bracket of the Class B regional as they played Oaks Mission Friday night (after press time) in Okmulgee in an elimination game.

The Longhorns were able to slow the pace for much of the first half and trailed 26-14 at the break.

Justovermidwaythrough the third quarter - with the game not out of hand, but a comeback out of the question - coach Jared Reese starting making way for the rest of the regional in hopes of surviving Friday and Saturday.

Calumet pounced, out scoring the Longhorns 45-7 in the second half.

The Chieftains had seven players score six or more points. They were led by Kaleb Thiessen’s 14 points.

Dover, which had just six field goals in the game, got eight points from Nathan Cohee.
