DOMINANT
Frontier wanted to play fast.
Lomega welcomed the challenge.
Turns out, only one team was up to the task as the Lady Raiders punched yet another ticket to The Big House with an 82-31 stomping in a Class B area championship game in Enid.
Lomega’s victory puts the program into this week’s state tournament for the 37th time. The Lady Raiders have played in four straight state title games.
They looked like a team that could get back there against Frontier.
Six different Lady Raiders scored in just the first quarter as they jumped to a 19-9 advantage.
Hadley Ott caught fire in the second quarter, making three of the team’s five 3-pointers in that frame as the lead expanded to 39-21.
“They tried to play with some tempo for a little while,” said Lomega coach Kevin Lewallen of the Lady Mustangs. “But we had things rolling pretty good and it was tough for them to keep up.”
Lomega put 10th-ranked Frontier away with a 17-5 third-quarter run.
This time it was Kate Myers who sparked it with two treys.
Lomega made 12 3-pointers on the night.
Ott made four of them and was one of four Lady Raiders in double figures.
She led the team with 14 points.
Monse Rivera added three 3-pointers as part of her 10 points.
Kate Myers and Claire Myers made two apiece. Kate scored 10 points and Claire added eight.
Abby Swart chipped in 12 points while Aliana Lawson provided nine.
Bonnie Childs paced Frontier with 12 points.
Second-ranked Lomega plays No. 11 Kiowa in the Class B quarterfinals at noon Wednesday at State Fair Arena.
Lomega (27-2) beat Kiowa in the 2021 Class B state championship game, the Lady Raiders’ second straight title that also capped an undefeated season.
Lomega has been state runner-up each of the last two seasons, losing to Pittsburg in 2022 and Hammon last season.
Kiowa (24-8) upset No. 7 Pittsburg 41-33 Saturday in an area consolation championship game to secure its spot at state.
