Dover continues winning ways with sweep
Playing for the fifth time in a week on Monday, the Dover boys continued to push their record toward .500.
Behind a big second quarter push, the Longhorns knocked off Geary 72-48 at home.
Down by two points after a quarter, the Longhorns went on a 23-10 run to take command of the game and win for the fourth time in five games.
Dover’s record was 3-9 before the Christmas break, but now sits at 7-10.
Six different Longhorns scored during the decisive quarter, led by Damion Turner’s nine points.
He knocked down a pair of 3-pointers in the frame as Dover took a 40-29 lead.
Kolten Shaw scored six in the quarter, then poured in eight more in the third as the Longhorns continued to add to their lead.
Turner eventually led the team with 19 points while Shaw scored 18, but they were only half of the Longhorns in double figures.
Emory Norton scored 11 in the first quarter as he helped Dover keep pace with the Bison. He finished with 13.
Carlos Flores scored in every quarter and ended his night with 10 points.
Ranked Lady Longhorns win big to complete sweep
Dover wasn’t down a player on Monday, but it was minus a head coach.
It didn’t matter.
With Brett Pitts watching from home, the Lady Longhorns turned to their current assistant and former head coach - Byron Randle.
With Matt Peck by his side, Randle watched Dover secure a 58-30 victory.
The team took care of business early as it got out to a 20-4 lead in the first quarter.
It swelled to 32-9 by halftime.
Karlee Harviston did the early damage as she scored nine points in the first eight minutes.
Her sister Katelyn Harviston took over in the second with seven points of her own.
Katelyn finished her night with 17 while Karlee scored 13.
Rylee Buck added seven points while Yareli Obeso, Joi Caldwell, Karlee McNulty and Kamree McNulty scored five apiece.
Dover won just hours after entering the Class B rankings for the first time in several years.
Coaches voted Dover at No. 19 this week.
The Lady Longhorns are 12-5 on the season.
