Dover continued to put off elimination Thursday as it advanced in its Class B area tournament.

The Lady Longhorns knocked Varnum out of the playoffs with a 4938 victory in their area consolation quarterfinal in Seminole.

Dover has now reached the Friday of area for three consecutive years.

The Lady Longhorns need two more wins to make a return trip to the state tournament.

They played Wilson (Henryetta) in Friday’s consolation semifinal for the right to move on to Saturday’s consolation championship.

Up a point on the Lady Whippets at halftime, Dover made its initial surge in the third quarter.

Kynli Boeckman and Joi Caldwell scored four points apiece and Rylee Buck made her second 3-pointer of the night as Dover nudged its lead to 10 points.

Varnum cut it back down to five by the end of the quarter, but the Lady Whippets couldn’t keep up in the fourth.

Caldwell and Buck notched five apiece in the final frame as Dover outscored the Lady Whippets 14-8.

Caldwell proved to be a problem for Varnum as she scored a game-high 19 points.

Buck finished her night with 11 while Boeckman and Madison Goodwin contributed eight apiece.

Dover entered Friday’s game with a 21-9 record.
