Harrison Evans shared Defensive Most Valuable Player honors and two other Kingfisher High School seniors earned top awards at their position when District 3A-1 selections were announced last week.

Harrison was selected by the district coaches as the top defensive player along with Braxton Lightfoot of Perkins-Tryon.

Entering Friday night’s second-round playoff game, Evans was fourth on the team with 49 tackles, including a team-high 12 tackles for a loss from his defensive end position.

He amassed those numbers despite missing one regular-season game.

District coaches also named Jax Sternberger the Quarterback of the Year and Aaron Delatorre as the Kicker of the Year.

Sternberger has thrown for 1,396 yards and 13 touchdowns and added another 650 yards and 10 TDs rushing.

Delatorre was 4 of 5 in field goal attempts with a long of 47 yards. He’s also 39 of 44 on extra-point tries and averaged 33.5 yards per punt.

He shared the kicking honor with Gael Rodriguez of Mount St. Mary.

Four other Yellowjackets earned first-team all-district honors.

Noah Friesen and Wrigley Kennedy were both named as defensive linemen.

Kyle Borelli was selected as a wide receiver/ defensive back and Cade Cooper as a running back/ defensive back.

Earning honorable mention were Tristun Burnham (WR/DB), Blake Hill (RB/LB), Kale Westfahl (OL/DL), Braxton Shellstrom (OL/DL) and Braden Eaton (WR/ DB).

KHS finished 5-2 in district games, good for third place behind champion Metro Christian and runner- up Perkins-Tryon.

Metro’s Tagg Campbell was selected as the district’s overall MVP.
