Farrar, Cline deliver big in KHS district win over Harrah
With its regular district starters unable to go, a freshman stepped up big Monday for the Kingfisher baseball team.
Collin Farrar hurled a one-hitter as the Jackets downed visiting Harrah 4-1 at Homier Field.
The complete game gem gave the Jackets a must-needed district win as it snapped a four-game losing skid against 4A-4 foes.
KHS upped its district mark to 7-4 and had a return trip to Harrah slated for Tuesday after press time and weather pending.
The Jackets sit third in the district behind Blanchard and Chickasha, the two teams responsible for those four district losses.
Farrar was able to overcome four Jacket errors to get his win.
One of those - as well as the Panthers’ lone hit - led to the visitors’ run in the top of the third inning, giving them a 1-0 lead.
Kaden Cline tied it up in the bottom half with an RBI single to score Farrar, who singled earlier in the frame.
Cline and Cooper Henley are Kingfisher’s normal Monday-Tuesday starters, but both are dealing with injuries.
Cline re-injured a shoulder recently diving back to first base while Henley has a bicep issue in his throwing arm.
Both are playing through the injuries, but can’t pitch.
That didn’t stop Cline from delivering the biggest hit of the game, a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning that gave KHS a 3-1 lead it wouldn’t lose.
Jagger Braun added an RBI single in the inning for some insurance.
Braun and Cline were both 2 for 3 at the plate.
Cline drove in 3 runs. Farrar helped his own cause by scoring twice. He was 1 for 3 and also walked.
The win moved the Jackets to 12-13 overall.
