Kingfisher’s offense was almost non-existent at times during last week’s regional tournament.

That wasn’t the case especially early - to start its run in area.

The Lady Jackets scored the game’s first 17 points and rode that momentum to a 48-30 victory against No. 18 Mannford in a 4A consolation quarterfinal in Hennessey.

Twice last week Kingfi sher scored seven points or fewer in escaping the regional tournament. KHS had 19 by the end of the first quarter and led 32-15 by halftime.

Mannford didn’t score its first points until two Alexis Rice free throws with 1:23 to go in the first quarter.

By that time, KHS sophomore Abbie Myers already had 10 points.

The Lady Jackets only managed one field goal in the third quarter, but Mannford only cut its deficit by two.

Talor Mecklenburg started the fourth quarter with a 3-pointer and the Lady Jackets weren’t threatened the rest of the night.

Myers scored seven in the fourth quarter as Kingfi sher outscored the Lady Pirates 13-10.

She led all scorers with 20 points.

Raegan Snider was also a part of that big surge in the first half.

She scored 15 of her 17 points in the first two quarters.

Peyton Walker, still playing with a fractured foot, appeared more comfortable on both ends.

She frustrated Mannford’s Isabella Pehrson, a Northwestern Oklahoma State University signee, who finished with just four points on the night.

Rice led the team with 10.

Walker scored five for Kingfisher while Mecklenburg and Addy Matthews had three apiece.

Kingfisher played Weatherford at 1 p.m. Friday (after press time) in the consolation semifinal.

Weatherford beat Plainview 57-48 Thursday. It was Plainview that sent Kingfi sher into the consolation bracket last week.

KHS has beaten Weatherford in their two meetings this season, both on the Lady Jackets’ home floor.
