Scoring droughts and untimely turnovers sent the Kingfisher boys into the consolation bracket of the Buckle of the Wheatbelt Invitational.

The Jackets lost for the first time in their own tournament since the championship game of 2016 when they were defeated 37-25 Thursday by Guymon.

The loss pitted KHS against Harrah in Friday’s consolation semifinal (after press time).

Harrah was defeated 70-37 by Guthrie, the tournament’s top seed.

No. 2 seed Perkins-Tryon also moved into the semifinals by downing Altus 62-47.

The Demons were set to play Woodward, which knocked off Chisholm 6358 in their quarterfinal game.

Kingfisher got three straight buckets from Coleman Gilles to stake a 6-0 lead on the Tigers.

Guymon had just three points in the first quarter and KHS managed an 11-5 lead at one point in the second.

That’s when Guymon closed with a 7-0 run to take a one-point halftime lead that Kingfisher never reclaimed.

The closest they got was 3-pointer by Matthew Mecklenburg that tied the game at 14-14 in the third quarter.

That was Kingfisher’s lone field goal of the frame as Guymon took a 24-16 lead into the fourth.

Tarick Watson led Guymon with 13 points.

The Tigers made 9 of 12 free throws in the fourth to help maintain their lead.

The Jackets got eight points from Coleman Gilles and six from Carter Kitchens.
