Hamil grapples way to 2nd at Cache

Emily Hamil took runner- up in the junior high bracket at 89 pounds last Saturday in the Wrestle Like a Girl Cache Invitational.

Hamil notched 21 points for Kingfisher as she went 3-1 in the crowded weight class.

Hamil pinned Union’s Esefany Godinez in just 26 seconds in the first round, which earned her a quarterfi nal bye.

She picked up a 10-0 major decision against Ponca City’s Heather Weaver in the semifinals.

Union’s Savannah Carrasco topped Hamil in the first-place match with a 10-2 major decision.

Hamil still had to earn silver as she squared off against Norman’s Emmy Rylant in the second-place.

She came away with a 10-4 decision.

Sophie Ellis also placed in the 89-pound bracket as she was sixth.

She lost to Rylant in the first round before coming back with a major decision, bye and another major decision to reach the consolation semifinals.

Once again Rylant topped Ellis, this time by a 7-4 decision, to get into the second-place match.

In her fifth-place match, Ellis was defeated by Harrah’s Olivia Henderson.

Tylar Prim scored four points for Kingfisher at 126 pounds and Brailin Schroeder eight points at 102 pounds.

Ellis also scored eight points.

Earning points for the KHS girls team were Rylee Hamil, six at 115 pounds; Taygen Otey, seven at 125; and Delissa Evans, four at 140.
