Hennessey ‘Dome’ scores Skordle Festival
The Hennessey Event Center has proven to be a favorite of basketball fans all over the state.
That’s why the facility will host 10 games on Thursday, Jan. 30, and six on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025, as part of the annual Skordle Festival.
HPS Superintendent Jason Sternberger gave school board members that news Monday during their May regular meeting.
From the audience, Todd Cameron filled in the dates and numbers.
“We will keep all of the concessions,” said Cameron, the school’s technology director. “We’re going to need lots of volunteers.”
All school board members agreed the event will be a big boost to the community.
“The Dome” was paid for by increased taxes to property owners in the school district.
Voters approved the property tax by 61.9% (a 60% yes vote was required for approval).
The $15.49 bond issue was approved in April 2017 and $10.59 million was set aside for the facility.
HHS 2020 seniors were the first students allowed into the facility during construction in 2019 and the first to graduate in the Hennessey Event Center.
It has hosted multiple playoff games the last few seasons, not only for Hennessey, but for larger classifications as well.
The Skordle Festival has been hosted exclusively in Enid the last several years, mostly at the Stride Event Center.
Games will continued to be played there as well.
