HHS boys advance, girls sent to consolation round
Camdyn Richardson and Hagen Copeland combined to maroon Perry’s season.
The Hennessey duo combined for 41 points Thursday as the Eagles downed Perry 57-39 in a Class 3A regional consolation quarterfinal at the Eagle Event Center.
The Eagles’ season is extended at least one more game. They took on Lindsay in a Friday consolation semifinal after press time of this edition.
Hennessey made nine 3-pointers in the win. Richardson and Copeland combined for seven of them.
A senior, Richardson nailed two treys and scored eight points in the first quarter as the Eagles built a 16-7 lead.
He duplicated that effort in the third quarter, though Perry was able to close its deficit from 13 points at the half to 10 points going into the fourth quarter.
Copeland, a freshman, then knocked down eight points in the fourth as Hennessey put Perry away with a 17-9 run.
Copeland scored 20 while Richardson netted 21.
Braedyn Richardson added seven points, including one of the Eagles’ four treys in the first quarter.
Hunter Weber added six points as Hennessey moved to 12-14. Perry’s season ended with a 4-21 mark.
The Lady Eagles were sent into the consolation bracket with Thursday night’s 53-30 loss to No. 7 Alva.
The loss snapped a fourgame win streak for the Lady Eagles.
They attempted to keep their season going Friday when they hosted Millwood in a regional consolation semifinal.
