When things got tight, Cashion went to its leader.

Lauren Jenkins delivered as the Lady Wildcats beat Morrison 47-41 to open their season at home last Friday night.

Up by seven at the half, Cashion scored just four points in the third quarter and saw its lead shrink to one.

“We needed to calm down and just put the ball in the hole,” said coach Andrea Taylor.

The coaching staff opted to send Jenkins to the high post in hopes of her being able to create offense from there.

It worked as Cashion scored 17 points in the fourth, its biggest output of the game.

“She made good things happen,” Taylor said. “She’s definitely our leader.”

One of the benefactors of Jenkins’ playmaking was Megan Shafer, who scored a team-high 19 points.

Jenkins scored 13 while Reese Williams chipped in nine.

“It was really a team effort,” Taylor said.

The teams battled back and forth in a first quarter that saw Cashion lead 16-14.

The home team put on the defensive clamps in the second quarter to take a 2619 halftime lead.
