KHS girls win 4th XC meet

Chalk up another win for the Kingfisher girls cross country team.

The Lady Jackets were dominant last Saturday in the Watonga Cross Country Invitational as they won for the fourth time in five meets.

The Lady Jackets carded just 48 points to beat the host Lady Eagles by 24 points.

Anadarko was a distant third with 105.

Three Lady Jackets were in the top-10 and all five scorers among the top-20 in the 3,200 meter race that featured 132 participants.

Katon Lunsford led the Lady Jacket pack with a fifthplace finish in 13:00.50.

Just one second and one place behind her was teammate Zoey Evans.

Andrew Becerra took ninth and Emmy Lunsford 11th for Kingfisher while Chesni Newkirk was 18th overall, but 17th in the team standings.

Although their placings didn’t count toward the team total, Kingfisher’s Hannah Francis was just one spot behind Newkirk and Jacee Mueggenborg was 22nd (21st).

It was Kingfisher’s second win at Watonga this season. The Lady Jackets also won meets at home and at Hennessey.

Jayden Newkirk led the Kingfisher boys with a fourth-place finish.

He ran the 5K track in 17:48.40.

Connor Hine was 14th, Xavier Ridenour 64th and Coleman Gilles 80th.

More than 140 runners took part in the race.

Scout Snodgrass claimed another gold medal in the junior high race.

The Kingfisher seventh grader topped 87 other runners to win the 2,500 meter race in 10:04.50.

Liberty Starr was sixth overall, but fourth in the team total while Lily Lunsford was 10th (seventh).

The KMS girls took runner-up as a team with 40 points.

Weatherford won the meet with 30.

Cashion’s Addison McCraken was among the top finishers as well as she placed fifth.

Will Neuman was eighth in the junior high boys race.

He ran the 3,200 meters in 12:54.47.

Some 90 runners took part.
