Kingfisher got closer to full strength last Saturday morning and earned a championship in the process. The Lady Jackets won the high school girls team title at the Watonga Cross Country Invitational. Led by Chesni Newkirk, Kingfisher amassed only 44 points to run well past the competition. Newkirk was 12th out of 174 runners. Due to some runners not being affiliated with teams, Newkirk’s finish was sixth for team scoring purposes.

She ran the two-mile course in 13:38.15. Newkirk finished one spot ahead of freshman teammate Scout Snodgrass, who was unable to compete at last weekend’s pre-state meet after falling ill and being unable to finish the week before in Hennessey. Snodgrass crossed the finish line in 13:46.88.

Peyton Walker was 16th (9th) and Harper Evans one spot below her. Terry-Anny McCully took 21st (12th) to round out Kingfisher’s low total.

Chisholm was the meet’s runner-up with 117 points. Lomega took 12th in the team race. The Lady Raiders were ledbyKateMyers,whowas 42nd (27th) in 14:49.34.

Cashion’s Addison McCracken ran individually and finished 18th overall in 14:03.62.

Gilles leads boys to 11th

KHS took 11th out of 17 teams in the high school boys race.

Scoring runners amassed 256 points for the Jackets.

Chisholm won the meet with 65. The OKC Knights were runners-up with 95.

The Jackets were paced in the 5 kilometer race by Coleman Gilles.

He was 49th (33rd) in 20:12.15.

Conner Askey took 56th (40th) and was nine seconds behind Gilles.

Rhett Schlegel, Wyatt Long and Raiden Clarke also counted toward the KHS total.

Luke Baustert led a two-person Cashion contingent as he was 60th in 20:26.52.

The junior high girls competition saw Kingfisher take third in the team standings.

Kingfisher’s 91 points were topped only by Laverne’s 46andOKCKnights’ 74 in the 14-team field.

Lily Lunsford finished the 2,500 meter race in 10:21.15 to finish sixth out of 142 runners to lead Kingfisher.

Kinley Taylor, who was 13th (10th) and Hinsley Brodrick, who finished 26th (18th), also medaled for the middle school girls.

Cole Baustert was the top local finisher in the middle school boys race.

The Cashion eighth grader was 23rd out of 156 competitors.

Brantley Johnson led the Kingfisher contingent as he was 75th.
