Kingfisher’s softball team got back above .500 for the second time this season and neared that mark in district games.

The Lady Jackets run ruled Mount St. Mary 9-1 in five innings at home on Thursday evening for their fifth victory in six games.

That pushed Kingfisher’s overall mark to 5-4 after starting the year 0-3.

KHS was also 2-3 in District 4A-1 games with a chance to even that up on Friday (after press time) at home against Clinton.

Kinlee East grabbed her second victory of the week as she gave up just three hits and struck out five batters.

The freshman right hander faced her only real trouble in the top of the first inning when the Lady Rockets got back-to-back singles with one out, then moved into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt.

Magen Rigsby followed with a single to center field to plate one run, but the Lady Jackets’ Jancee Matthews fired to home plate to nail a would-be second score.

East didn’t give up another hit in the game, though she did surrender four walks.

Layla Kroener’s sacrifi ce fly in the bottom of the first tied the game as Matthews scored on the play.

That led to East giving herself the lead for good with an RBI single, which was followed by a Bella Gomez double.

The hit was misplayed in left field which not only allowed courtesy runner Liliana Garramone to score, but Gomez as well as KHS took a 4-1 advantage.

The Lady Jackets then scored at least one run in each of the next four innings, including an RBI single by Shelby David to score Gracie Rowan to end the game in the fifth Kinley Taylor, who had an RBI double in the game, and Mattie Slezickey each had two hits for KHS.

Adlee Friesen, Kroener, East and David had one RBI apiece.
