Kingfisher wrapped up third place in the Weatherford Eagles Classic for the second straight year on Saturday.

The Lady Jackets downed Cordell 6-2 on Saturday afternoon to earn the third place plaque. That came after splitting matchups on Friday. KHS opened with a 10-1 win over Purcell in the quarterfinals before falling 4-0 to Weatherford in the semifinals.

Weatherford, which was last year’s Class 4A state runner-up, defeated Duncan 3-0 for the title on Saturday. Weatherford is undefeated this season and hasn’t allowed a goal in eight games.

But the Lady Jackets bounced back Saturday with their win over Cordell.

After falling behind 1-0, KHS scored four straight goals to close the first half.

The first three came within a span of about five minutes.

Harper Evans caught a crossing pass from Maya Haney and scored to tie it up.

Sophomore Molly Weber then delivered consecutive goals, one on a free kick and the other a penalty kick for a 3-1 lead.

Later in the half, Haney controlled the ball from end to end and scored with her left foot for a 4-1 lead.

The second half saw freshman Kinsleigh Willms net her first career goal. She took a corner kick from Weber and delivered it into the net for a 5-1 advantage.

After that, Haney stole a pass then had the ball defl ect off her body and into the goal for the team’s final score.

Yesenia Rivera, who played the final two games at keeper after Liliana Garramone was injured against Purcell, recorded nine saves in Saturday’s win.

One of the goals scored against Rivera was a penalty kick, but the freshman blocked another penalty kick in the second half.

The Lady Jackets are now 3-3 on the season and won’t play again until April 8 against Millwood.

They were set to host Harding Fine Arts on Friday, but HFA has since canceled its planned trip.
