Kingfisher squads advance to Buckle semifinals

Weatherford pulled off the only upset Thursday in first-round action at the 17th annual Buckle of the Wheatbelt Invitational.

The sixth-seeded Eagles handed third-seeded Chisholm a 57-34 defeat in the first boys game of the day.

All other top seeds held suit in Kingfisher’s tournament at the APB.

That includes both Kingfisher teams.

The Lady Jackets moved into the semifinals for the second straight year as they dispatched of Cache 50-36 in another 3-6 matchup.

Brooklyn Whipple made four of Kingfisher’s eight 3-pointers as they steadily pulled away to improve to 7-8 on the year.

Whipple scored a game-high 15 points. Emma Wood made two more treys and added eight points.

The top-seeded Kingfisher boys wrapped up the day’s action with a 64-33 victory against Guymon.

Although the Jackets struggled shooting the ball, they held the Tigers to just two second-quarter points in building a 34-12 halftime lead.

Jett Sternberger did manage five 3-pointers and scored 21 points.

Matthew Stone added 15.
