Kingfisher’s first two opponents are at the opposite ends of the spectrum.

Merritt, the Lady Jackets’ season opening foe, is coming off two consecutive trips to the 2A state tournament and will be joining KHS at the Bertha Frank Teague Mid-America Classic later this month.

Chisholm, meanwhile, is in the midst of several seasons of struggle and scored one point in the first three quarters of its own opener at Cashion.

Needless to say, the trip to Chisholm was a good bounce back for the Lady Jackets as they waltzed their way to a 90-28 victory.

Defense led to offense for KHS as it forced 13 turnovers in the first quarter alone, which fed to a 31-point outburst.

Mattie Slezickey had 12 in the quarter and Ela Hartman seven as the visitors staked a 29-point lead.

Kingfisher pulled off its press in the second quarter, but still turned over the Lady Longhorns another eight times.

And the lead kept growing.

Relying less on layups, KHS saw Reese Roof erupt for three treys in the second quarter. Her 11 points in the frame helped see the lead expand to 52-10.

And it just continued to grow.

By game’s end, 10 different Lady Jackets scored and eight of them had six or more points.

Hartman led the way with 17 points.

Slezickey and Roof finished with 16 apiece.

Kendal Hawk paced Chisholm with nine points, all in the second half.
