Two teams from each area make it to the state basketball tournament.

The two teams that beat Hennessey’s girls in the 2025 playoffs happened to be the two to emerge from Class 3A, Area I.

Hennessey’s season came to an end Friday with a 41-36 loss to No. 2 Community Christian in the 3A area consolation semifinal in Kellyville.

The Lady Eagles saw their season end with a 2110 record.

Community Christian, defeated by Heritage Hall in its regional opener, completed a five-game trek to the state tournament the following night by defeating Casady.

Alva, the team that sent Hennessey to the consolation bracket, was the area champion and also advanced to state.

The 15-point difference over Hennessey was the closest margin for Community Christian in its playoff wins.

And the game was closer than the final score.

The Lady Eagles led 2120 at the half before Community Christian went on an 11-5 run in the third quarter.

Still, Hennessey was within two possessions with less than half the fourth quarter remaining.

Eventually the Lady Eagles had to start fouling. Community Christian made just enough free throws - 9 of 12 - to put the game away.

The Royals outscored Hennessey 26-10 in the second half.

Outside of free throws, Community Christian did its damage beyond the arc.

The team made nine 3-pointers including two in the pivotal fourth quarter.

Sadie Thrailkill made four of them - three in the first quarter - for her gamehigh 12 points.

Hennessey made three of its four treys in the first half.

Two came from Katie Kennedy, who led her team with nine points.

Emma Copeland chipped in eight points while Clare Munroe scored seven.
