Lady Jackets wrap up play at Woodward tournament

Kingfisher’s softball team was able to put together a 3-2 record over the weekend at the Woodward Tournament.

After splitting the first two games against Guymon and Watonga (story in Aug. 14 edition), the Lady Jackets closed it out with one more loss to Guymon while picking up wins over Woodward JV and Guymon JV.

Natalie Dick had two hits, drove in a run, scored twice and pitched two innings in the 11-1 run-rule victory against Woodward JV.

The Lady Jackets posted six first-inning runs and scored at least once in each of the next three frames in the four-inning game.

Siera Stitt and Gentry Taylor drove in 2 RBIs apiece.

Taylor and Kynli Boeckman joined Dick in scoring twice.

Eight different KHS players had at least one hit. Taylor Mills also collected two of them.

Merrin Evans threw the first two innings and allowed just one hit while striking out two.

Dick handled the final two frames. She surrendered four hits and an earned run while sitting down two on strikes.

KHS also scored six in the first inning in its 13-1 victory against Guymon JV.

Mya Dewberry and Boeckman had the hot bats in this contest. Each collected three hits as KHS rattled off 14 as a team.

Dewberry drove in three runs and scored three times.

Boeckman also had 3 RBIs and she scored a run.

Taylor went 1 for 2 at the plate with 3 RBIs and a pair of runs scored.

Evans added two hits and an RBI.

She also pitched the final three innings. Evans gave up two hits, an unearned run and had two strikeouts.

The conclusion of the tournament saw KHS with a 3-3 overall record.

After district home games Monday and Tuesday, KHS was set to host the annual Highway 33 Classic beginning Thursday (see related story).
