Mid-America bracket is released; KHS to take on McAlester

Organizers have released the bracket for the 2023 Bertha Frank Teague Mid-America Classic.

The Kingfisher Lady Jackets will take part in the invitation-only event Dec. 28-30 at the Robert S. Kerr Activities Center on the campus of East Central University in Ada.

KHS will take on Class 5A’s McAlester in the first round at 4:30 p.m. on the tournament’s opening day.

Other first-round matchups are Byng vs. Merritt, Bethel vs. Carl Albert and Hartshorne vs. Washington.

According to rankings released Monday, Washington is No. 1 in Class 3A, Bethel is sixth in 3A, Hartshorne is No. 6 in 2A, Merritt is No. 8 in 2A and KHS is 10th in 4A.

Byng (4A) was unranked and there are no current rankings for 5A and 6A teams as they’re now playing in districts.

Game 1: Hartshorne vs. Washington, 3 p.m.

Game 2: McAlester vs. Kingfisher, 4:30 p.m.

Game 3: Bethel vs. Carl Albert, 6:30 p.m.

Friday, Dec. 29
