Hunter Mueggenborg recovered from a disastrous start at the Class 2A boys state golf tournament to finish in the top 20.

Mueggenborg quintuple- bogeyed his first hole and triple-bogeyed his ninth.

In between were two double-bogeys and three bogeys, all during his first nine holes at the Territory Golf and Country Club in Duncan.

However, the junior settled down after shooting a 51 on the front-nine with a respectable 43 on the back.

He followed up his firstround 94 with an 84 on his second 18 holes Monday.

Mueggenborg fired off another 84 on the par-72 course on Tuesday to give him a 262 total.

That tied him for 20th with Velma-Alma’s Conner Bruce.

There were 75 golfers in the state tournament field.

Carter Ray of Walters won the individual state title with a 219, which was just 3-over-par.

Latta won the team title with a 984. Thomas was the state runner-up with its 1,029 over the three rounds.
