Mueggenborg, Roby hit 1,000 as Warriors cruise to finals
THREE RIVERS CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT
Seventy-five percent of the teams vying for Three Rivers Conference Tournament championships reside in Kingfisher County.
The girls game will feature Cashion against top-seeded Oklahoma Bible Academy at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Minco High School.
The boys contest will see No. 1 seed Okarche against second-seeded Cashion at about 7:30 p.m.
The tournament schedule was changed multiple times due to last week’s snowstorm that affected much of the state.
First-round games were not played until Saturday and semifinal games were Monday.
Teams return to Minco Wednesday for the final day of action.
The Okarche boys teams saw two milestones hit on their way to the championship game.
Senior Hunter Mueggenborg eclipsed 1,000 career points as Okarche defeated OBA 99-31 in the quarterfinals.
Mueggenborg scored 18 points and had five assists in the game.
He was one of five Warriors in double figures and was joined by Easton Roby, who led the team with 22; Colin Hendrickson and Ethan Kirby, who scored 11 apiece; and Kyson Avila, who scored 10.
OnMonday,itwasRoby’s turn to hit the 1,000-point mark.
The junior did so as the Warriors downed Hennessey 99-53. Roby led the team with 28 points.
Mueggenborg added 26 while Jett Mueggenborg scored 16.
Cashion’s march to the title game was a bit more difficult, at least in the semifinals.
The Wildcats used a 19-9 run in the third quarter, then held off Crescent for a 58-55 win.
It was the fifth time a Cashion game has been decided by one possession this season.
Parker Mitchell and Drake Woody led the Wildcats with 14 points apiece.
Anthony Wilburn added 13 while Hudson Horan scored nine points to go with nine rebounds.
The Wildcats shot lights out in their 94-51 victory over Watonga in the quarterfi nals.
They went 19 of 33 from 3-point range.
Mitchell was 6 of 9 from long range as part of his game-high 24 points.
BrodyNichols(10points) and Horan (9) made three treys apiece while Anthony Wilburn (8) and Woody (8) each made two.
Cashion enters the finals with a 10-3 mark and ranked 12th in Class 2A.
Okarche is 14-0 and No. 1 in Class A.
The Hennessey boys play Crescent in the third-place game at 4:40 p.m. Wednesday.
Hennessey beat Minco 69-59 Saturday in the quarterfi nals behind a 27-point effort from Camdyn Richardson.
The senior scored 14 in the third quarter, including four 3-pointers.
Hagen Copeland added 15 and Beau Vinson 14 in the win.
Richardson scored 15 and Vinson 10 in the loss to Okarche.
Cashion’s girls go into their championship game with a 9-4 mark.
They are ranked No. 14 in Class 2A.
After downing Hennessey 33-22 in the quarterfi nals, Cashion knocked off 2A’s 19th-ranked Fairview in the semis.
Megan Shafer scored 15 and Addison McCracken 12 in that victory.
The pace was considerably slower against Hennessey, but Cashion rode its 14-1 run to start the game to the win.
Abby Hobgood led all scorers with 11 while Shafer scored 10.
Ally Painter, Clare Munroe and Katie Kennedy scored five apiece for Hennessey.
The lady Eagles came back Monday to down Watonga 45-36. They play Minco at 12:40 Wednesday in the consolation championship.
The third-place game will feature Okarche and Fairview at 3:20 p.m.
Okarche opened the tournament with a 58-52 victory against Minco before falling 44-28 to OBA in the semifinals.
