Recent Kingfisher High School graduate Riley Myers has one more preps award to collect.

He’s just going to have to wait a year to do it.

Myers last week was named the 2020 Oklahoma Coaches Association Male Athlete of the Year.

He’ll receive a $500 scholarship and a plaque for the honor. He was set to receive the plaque during the OCA Hall of Fame induction banquet later this summer in Tulsa.

Myers’ father and football coach - Jeff Myers - was set to be inducted into the hall of fame the same night.

However, the banquet, along with the OCA coaches’ clinic and All-State games, have been canceled.

The ceremony has been pushed back to the summer of 2021 at which both Myers men will be honored.

Earlier this spring, Riley Myers was named the Region 1 Male Athlete of the year, which covers 76 schools in northwestern Oklahoma.

He’s been active in football, track and field and basketball during his high school career.

He helped KHS to a 7-5 record and a spot in the second round of the Class 3A playoffs in the 2019 football season.

He was third on the team with 64 tackles and led the team with nine tackles for a loss.

He also caught six passes for 79 yards and two touchdowns on offense.

Myers is also a member of the National Honor Society and was listed on the superintendent’s honor roll.

He signed to play football at Northwestern Oklahoma State University earlier this year.

Myers wasn’t the only person with KHS ties to be honored by the OCA.

Jared Reese was named the 2020 boys basketball coach of the year by the association.

Reese coached Kingfisher to a 26-1 mark. KHS won its first 25 games, which were part of a 47-game win streak overall.

The Jackets reached the Class 4A state tournament for the fourth consecutive year, but never played in it due to the coronavirus.

KHS won the Class 4A state championship in 2017 and 2019 and was the runner-up in 2018. The Jackets were ranked No. 1 in Class 4A all season long.
