As it turns out, Hooker wasn’t caught looking ahead to this week.

The second-ranked Bulldogs lived up to their billing Friday by handing Cashion a 54-14 home loss.

The game ended a three-game win streak for the Wildcats, who dropped to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in District A-I-1. Hooker is now 5-1 and 3-0.

The Bulldogs host No. 1 and two-time defending state champion Fairview this week in a game that will likely decide the district championship. It’s also a rematch of the 2023 Class A state title game.

But Hooker wasn’t worried yet about the Yellowjackets. The Bulldogs tallied 554 total yards and were up 40-7 by halftime.

That included a 28-point second quarter.

Kleat Martens threw five touchdown passes, including four in the first half.

He was 8 of 13 for 255 yards.

Hooker also ran for 299 yards.

Cashion was limited to 185 total yards.

After Hooker staked a 21-0 lead in the second quarter, Rival Fields caught a 13-yard pass from Kellen Smith.

Cashion didn’t score again until the second half after Hooker had put the game away.

That TD was a pass from Smith to Grayson Davis that covered 12 yards.

Cashion will try to get back on track Thursday night when it travels to rival Crescent (1-5, 0-3) for the annual War on 74.
