One word to describe the Kingfisher High School softball season of late?

Streaky. The Lady Jackets last Saturday put an end to a four-game losing streak by defeating the OKC Broncos 10-0 during the Bethany Tournament.

The losing streak was preceded by a three-game win streak which itself followed a span of three straight losses.

Following the win over the Broncos, KHS was dealt a 5-3 loss at the hands of Bethany in their final game of the tournament.

KHS was 1-3 in the tournament and ended the week with a 9-12 overall record.

(Note: The Lady Jackets’ home district game with Elk City scheduled for Monday, Sept. 11, was postponed due to rain. The teams will play at 11 a.m. this Saturday.)

The Lady Jackets got 12 hits in the five-inning win over the Broncos just two days after being limited to two hits in a 2-1 defeat to the same squad.

Up 1-0 after three innings, Kingfisher broke it open with a five-run fourth inning.

That included a tworun double off the bat of freshman Mattie Slezickey, who later scored on a Kinley Taylor single.

Taylor brought home two more runs in the fourrun fifth inning when she reached on an error.

Also a freshman, Taylor was 3 for 4, drove in a run and scored twice in the game.

Slezickey and Kinlee Easte had two hits apiece.

East got it done on the mound as she gave up just three hits in the complete-game effort. She struck out three Broncos without surrendering a walk.

The Lady Jackets led Bethany 3-2 entering the bottom of the fifth inning, but couldn’t protect it.

The Lady Bronchos tied the game with an RBI single in the fifth, then took a 5-3 lead with a two-out, two-run single later in the inning.

Only two of the five runs surrendered by East were earned.

Jancee Matthews gave KHS a 1-0 lead with her RBI double to score East in the top of the first inning.

Bethany tied the game in the third, then took a 2-1 lead in the fourth.

The Lady Jackets pieced together a pair of runs in the fifth for a short-lived lead.

Matthews had two of Kingfisher’s six hits.
