Weary, wounded Cashion falls to Garber in title tilt
The good news for the Cashion boys Friday was they found a way to survive a 58-53 triple-overtime win over Ripley.
The bad news was junior guard Kamden Miller rolling his ankle in that third overtime.
Miller’s absence was felt Saturday when the Wildcats were defeated 55-43 by host Garber in the NextEra Energy Resources Invitational championship game.
“We just couldn’t find a rhythm offensively,” said coach John Hardaway. “It just made everything harder, especially in the second half.”
Cashion led 26-22 at halftime, but was outscored 16-6 in the third quarter.
The Wolverines were able to add to their lead in the fourth.
Nathan Nabavi scored 15 points while Carson Gump and Drake Woody notched 10 apiece as Cashion dropped to 4-1.
Miller scored 10 points before being injured against Ripley.
He had a chance to ice the game at the end of the second overtime, but made just one of two free throws with 6.6 seconds left on the clock.
That put Cashion up 53-50, but victory was stalled when Caden Hood nailed a 3-pointer at the buzzer to force the third extra period.
Hood scored 25 points to lead the Warriors. Nabavi and Woody were big throughout, combining for 44 points.
Nabavi led the way with 23 while Woody made enough free throws in the final minute of the last overtime to help seal the win.
