Weatherford knocks off Lady Jackets, 53-47
Their first matchup went down to the wire.
The second one did not.
Weatherford avenged its previous loss to Kingfisher by handing the Lady Jackets a 53-47 defeat Tuesday on the Lady Eagles’ home court.
KHS knocked off Weatherford 46-45 about 10 days earlier in the finals of the Buckle of the Wheatbelt.
In that contest, Marley Teasley missed the first of two free throws with just one second on the clock when two makes would have tied the game.
Teasley and guards Braelee Epp and Shyla Navarre were intent on not letting it get that far again.
The teams traded punches for much of the first half before Weatherford closed it strong for a 23-18 lead.
The Lady Eagles made three 3-pointers - two by Teasley - while KHS had none in the first half.
Adlee Friesen knocked down a trey to start the second half for the Lady Jackets.
But - as they did for much of the rest of the game - the Lady Eagles had an answer.
Epp made a 3-pointer and Talyn Payne two more as Weatherford kept its lead on Kingfisher.
In the fourth, Kingfisher got a 3-pointer from Ela Hartman and Raegan Snider poured in nine points.
But, Weatherford never would let the Lady Jackets close the gap.
Navarre and Epp went a combined 8 of 10 from the free throw line while Teasley made her third trey of the game and scored five points in the fourth.
Epp led the team with 17 points while Teasley scored 15 and Navarre 11.
Snider finished the game with 19 for the Lady Jackets, who saw their six-game win streak snapped as they fell to 16-4 on the season.
Abbie Myers scored 11 while Friesen and Ela Hartman contributed seven points apiece.
