Woody, McDowell are OCA All-State

Six others from county voted all-stars by class

Kingfisher County will have a pair of representatives at the Oklahoma Coaches Association’s All-State basketball games this year.

Rachel McDowell of Okarche and Jacob Woody of Cashion earned the distinction of being OCA All-State picks when the group announced its selections last week.

The girls OCA All-State basketball games are set for July 29 at the Mabee Center in Tulsa. The boys’ games are the following night at the same location.

McDowell and Woody are members of their respective Small West teams, which includes Classes 3A, 2A, A and B.

McDowell helped guide Okarche to a 27-4 record and a spot in the Class A semifinals.

She led the Lady Warriors with 13.3 points and also averaged 4.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.8 assists.

Woody helped Cashion to a 25-3 record. The Wildcats qualified for state for the first time since 1996 and just the third time in the program’s history.

He led Cashion with 18.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per contest and added 2.0 steals a game.

He’s just the third Cashion boys basketball player to be earn OCA All-State.

Woody was earlier named the Three Rivers Conference’s most valuable player for the boys while McDowell was voted the honor for the girls.

Both have earned multiple other postseason honors leading up to the OCA awards, which is open only to seniors.

Woody was named to the Little All-City first team, All-Northwest Oklahoma team and was an all-region team member as voted on by OCA coaches.

McDowell also earned Little All-City designation and was also named to the Oklahoma Girls Basketball Coaches Association All-State team.

To be eligible for OCA All-State designation, players must first be voted as an all-star for his or her individual classification.

Woody’s teammate, Alex Nabavi, joined him as a Class 2A all-star.

Other county all-stars included Okarche’s Kaleb Harris in Class A and Hennessey’s Angel Rodriguez in Class 3A.

For the girls, Kingfisher’s Jennifer Beebe and Melody Wilfong were Class 4A all-stars while Cashion’s Kaitin Taylor was voted the honor in Class 2A.
