Margie Burpo
On Friday, July 28, 2023, Margie Lucille (Stroud) Burpo passed peacefully in her home, located on the property where she had lived most of her 95 years of life.
Margie was born June 17, 1928, in Kingfisher to parents Alfred Ross “Slim” Stroud and Nannie Imogene Thompson Stroud Blair in Kingfisher.
Margie married the love of her life, Tim Burpo, on July 10, 1946, and they were married 62 years before his passing on Aug. 23, 2008.
Together they built a strong family heritage on unconditional love, hard work and deep faith in God.
They raised three children on the home place: Rosie, Tim Jr., and Darlene.
She loved her family deeply and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Margie graduated from Kingfisher High School and worked hard all her life.
Her first job was waitressing at Maxine’s Diner. She later started her career at Pioneer Telephone, working in several positions, mostly in the Engineering Department.
She retired from Pioneer Telephone in 1993 after 30 years of committed service. She was known to “run a tight ship” and expected excellence in her performance and everyone she worked with.
Margie loved attending church and served faithfully wherever she attended, teaching Sunday School, serving in women’s ministries and decorating the church.
She was an active member of Frontline Ministries before she was unable to attend any longer; however, she always remained a prayer support, encourager and giver into the ministry and other ministries she loved.
Her hobbies included travel and shopping.
Some of her favorite adventures were to Spain, Morocco, the Bahamas, New York, Catalina Island and many more.
She loved shopping, including thrift stores where she always came home with more treasures than she had room for.
She was known for her classy dress style whether at church or work and made a fashion statement with every outfit, modeling matching shoes, jewelry and purses for every single outfit.
Margie is survived by her children Rosie Bricker of Yukon, Tim Burpo Jr. and wife Debbie of Kingfisher, Darlene Allen and husband Donald of Kingfisher, brother Troy Stroud of Wynnewood, sister Margaret Murphy of Kingfisher and sisterin- law Delores Stroud of Graettinger, Iowa.
She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family, nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Tim Burpo; two brothers, Gerald and Alfred Stroud; two sisters, Beatrice Gaither and Ann Louise McLaurin; and two infant brothers, Chester Eugene Stroud and George Elmer Stroud.
Margie lived life to the fullest and remained faithful to the Lord and her family until her departure into the Presence of the Lord.
Services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, at Frontline Ministries, officiated by Pete Peterman and Dustin Burpo and under the direction of Sanders Funeral Service.
A burial followed at Kingfisher Cemetery.
The family has requested memorial gifts be made to Frontline Ministries (Family Life Center), 124 West Erwin, Kingfisher, OK 73750.
