Lawson emerging as Lomega rolls 3A Luther
Raiders see their win streak come to end during downtown Enid festival
Luther had a dose of confidence entering Saturday’s showdown with Lomega.
Then the Lady Lions had to try to keep up on the court.
As the previous 20 Lomega opponents found out, that’s not so easy.
Lomega pulled away from Class 3A’s 11thranked Luther 69-46 Saturday at the Skordle Festival at the Stride Bank Center in Enid.
Luther had won six in a row and 10 of its last 11 games. The Lady Lions even staked an 11-10 lead through a quarter.
But then Lomega got rolling.
The Lady Raiders went on a 19-8 run as six different players scored in the second quarter.
Aliana Lawson proved to be the biggest thorn in Luther’s paw.
She scored six in the second quarter and then nine more in the third as Lomega extended its lead to 13 points.
The Lady Raiders commenced to outscoring Luther by 10 in the fourth. Lawson scored six more to give her 24 for the game.
“She’s been playing really well for us lately,” Lewallen said.
Abby Swart took care of things from the outside. She made four of Lomega’s seven 3-pointers and finished with 16 points.
Kate Myers added seven points.
Luther was led by Maggie Vinson, who poured in 21. She had 17 points in the second half.
The win was Class B No. 2 Lomega’s 21st straight since opening the season with a loss to Dover.
Lions knock off Lomega Three Lions scored in double figures as Luther put an end to Lomega’s win streak.
Paced by Quintin Richardson, Class 3A Luther knocked off the Raiders 6355 Saturday in the Skordle Festival at Enid’s Stride Bank Center.
Lomega had won six straight entering the day, but struggled to slow down the Lions’ offense.
Luther led 36-29 at halftime, then held Lomega to just six points in the third.
The Raiders couldn’t catch up in the fourth.
They got 19 points from Lance Yost and 16 from Ben Marsh.
The two combined for 14 points in the fourth as the Raiders tried to mount their comeback.
Chase Burton added eight.
Richardson led all scorers with 22. He had 16 of his total by halftime.
Gavin Milligan added 15 points and Aden Henke 13 for the Lions.
The loss dropped the Raiders to 15-7.
