Cashion used a potent ground attack to all but lock up a playoff berth with two weeks still left in the regular season.

The Wildcats had two backs break the century mark, ran for 300 yards overall and beat Sayre 35-14 on the road last week.

The win moved the Wildcats to 6-2 overall and 4-1 in District A-I-1.

Barring major upsets in other contests, Cashion is virtually guaranteed a spot in the playoffs.

The Wildcats host Hinton (4-4, 3-2) this week. A win in that Week 9 game would lock up at least third place in the district.

Cashion led Sayre 21-0 at halftime behind a 42-yard touchdown run from Jayden Bolton and 2 yards from Rival Fields. In between, Fields also caught a 14-yard touchdown pass from Kellen Smith.

Sayre scored twice in the second half to cut Cashion’s lead to just one score.

However, Smith hooked up with Maxx Higdon for a 59-yard strike in the fourth quarter to push it back to a two-score game.

Fields put the game away with a 4-yard touchdown run.

The sophomore back had a big night as he ran 18 times for 138 yards.

Bolton, meanwhile, added 107 yards on just nine carries.

Overall, Cashion averaged 8.1 yards on its 37 carries.

Smith added 99 passing yards as he completed 8 of 15 attempts.

Kaleb Duran led the defense with 10 tackles.

Sayre had just 188 total yards and averaged under 3 yards in its 51 rush attempts.

The loss snapped a three game win streak for the Eagles (5-3, 3-2).

Cashion has won two straight and five of its last six.

The Wildcats’ lone loss in that stretch was to No. 1 Hooker.

Cashion can place as high as second in the district by winning out, which includes a trip to Fairview in Week 10.
